EASTERN MARKET + NEWSEUM

Yesterday I spent the day in DC with a friend. We started off at Eastern Market - a popular flea/farmer's market. The produce was really fresh and there were a lot of free samples so we ate our way through most of the market. I loved seeing all the artwork that was for sale. There was a street artist who hand painted superhero T-shirts that tempted us with a Flash shirt, but ultimately we decided to spend our money on food (typical).
Before getting lunch, we stopped at Capital Hill Books, a used book store. The place was PACKED with books. I was afraid I would knock a shelf over and bring the whole place down, but the owner was quite funny and I found a few titles I liked. For lunch I tried the soft shell crab sandwich from the warehouse at the heart of the market. I was a little apprehensive at getting a whole crab, but with the sauce, it was pretty good.
Then we went to the Newseum, a museum about news and journalism. The exhibits were very impressive. The pictures below are pieces of the Berlin Wall and I'm posing inside of a watchtower. My favorite parts of the museum were the 6th floor, which had some stunning views of DC on the deck as well as a display of all the front pages from various newspapers across the country (which they updated every day), and the 1st floor, which had an exhibit of all the Pulitzer Prize-winning photographs. After the Newseum, we took a break outside and made friends with a squirrel who followed us around until we fed him some pretzels. On our way home, we passed by a protest that was going on in front of the National Archives building.
Just another day in the nation's capital!
